Ford Racing to Unveil a Production Road Car on January 15th, 2026

Ford Racing will unveil a new road car at the launch of its 2026 season in Detroit next January.

  • This could be a new generation of the Ford GT, a more aggressive Mustang GTD, or something else entirely.

  • A sneak peek at this new model will be given to attendees of the Ford Racing season launch in Detroit.

  • The same event will mark Ford’s return to F1 racing after 22 years.

Ford will give attendees a sneak peek at a new Ford Performance production road car at its racing season launch event in Detroit on January 15th.

Very few details are known about this project at the moment, but the automaker says it will show “how deeply we’re integrating our racing innovations into the vehicles you drive every day”.

This suggests a serious performance car inspired by track-going vehicles that should combine large horsepower and torque figures with impressive handling characteristics.

One possibility is a return of the iconic Ford GT, which saw two non-consecutive generations since the 60s race car was re-imagined as a production model back in 2005.

Since the second-generation GT was discontinued in 2022, the title of Ford’s halo car went to high-performance versions of the Mustang, such as the track-focused GTD.

Speaking of which, an even more extreme variant of this sports car is also a candidate for the next Ford Racing production car, as Ford intends this model to compete with, and beat, the Chevrolet Corvette, which just added a 1,250-horsepower ZR-1X variant powered by a twin-turbocharged hybrid V8.

Electrification could be involved in the upcoming Ford Racing sports car, as the automaker has hinted at such technologies before.

Since we are just speculating, the car to be unveiled at the Michigan Central Station in Detroit, recently restored by Ford, could turn out to be something else entirely.

Ford example, the automaker’s CEO, Jim Farley, talked about a 1,000-horsepower electrified off-road supercar a few months ago, which could very well be produced by the Ford Racing division.

More details will have to wait until January 15th, at the event where Ford Racing will launch its 2026 season and celebrate its return to Formula 1 after a 22-year absence.

Partnering with Red Bull, Ford will supply powertrains to two teams next year, which will involve working with sustainable fuels and high-performance electrification.

The automaker says its future road cars will benefit from the technologies and innovations developed for its racing programs.
