MINI is validating a rugged Countryman in demanding Rocky Mountain conditions.
Camouflaged prototype remains undisclosed ahead of its October 2026 world premiere.
Testing focuses on all-road capability and real-world performance validation.
MINI is entering the final development phase of a new adventure-oriented Countryman special edition after completing extensive evaluation in the Rocky Mountains, where engineers are assessing the vehicle under demanding real-world driving conditions before its global debut later this year.

The camouflaged prototype is undergoing testing across mountain passes, gravel roads, rocky trails and remote backcountry routes in the United States. The programme, or fun time (let’s not pretend), is designed to verify the vehicle’s durability, capability and overall performance in real-world and challenging environments.
The Rocky Mountains provide a wide range of operating conditions, including steep elevations, loose surfaces and rapidly changing weather. These factors allow engineers to evaluate how the Countryman performs across varying terrain while validating systems intended for all-road driving.
MINI said the latest Countryman is intended to build on the model’s established versatility by combining everyday usability with increased confidence on more demanding routes. No technical details on the big MINI were shared; however, we can clearly see that ride height is increased, all-terrain tires are fitted to the wheels, and there’s visible towing equipment at the rear, near what looks to be a tailpipe. Other than the roof-mounted pop-up tent, no other off-road-like features are visible.

Jean-Philippe Parain, Head of MINI, said the project has been guided by the brand’s long-standing emphasis on making every journey an adventure. He added that the upcoming addition to the Countryman lineup will combine capability with distinctive character while creating new opportunities for customers seeking outdoor exploration.
The new MINI Countryman special edition is scheduled to make its world premiere in October 2026. At that time, MINI plans to reveal the complete vehicle and outline how the rugged model differs from the existing Countryman range.
