Mazda sold 150,637 Large Platform SUVs globally in fiscal 2025, below its 200,000-unit target.
Planned changes will cover exterior styling, interiors and powertrains across four Mazda SUV nameplates.
Large-scale updates will come to the CX-60, CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90.
Mazda is preparing substantial revisions to its Large Platform SUV family after combined global sales of the four models fell short of the automaker’s target during fiscal 2025.
The planned work covers the CX-60, CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90. Mazda sold 150,637 units across the four nameplates globally during its 2025 fiscal year, compared with a target of 200,000. The result left the group nearly 50,000 vehicles, or 25% below Mazda’s objective.

The United States accounts for more than half of Mazda’s Large Platform sales, making North American performance an important part of the company’s plans for the vehicles. Mazda chief financial officer Jeffrey Guyton has also identified growth in the U.S. as a priority and confirmed that product improvements are under development. Mazda Canada delivered just shy of 11,000 CX-70 and CX-90 SUVs combined in 2025 compared to almost 70,000 in the U.S. for the same period.
The scale of those revisions will extend well beyond conventional model-year updates. Mazda CEO Masahiro Moro told Japanese newspaper Chugoku Shimbun that changes are planned for the vehicles’ exterior styling, interiors and powertrains.
“We will make changes to the exterior, interior and powertrain, and implement upgrades on a scale unprecedented to date,” Moro said.
Mazda has not disclosed individual engineering changes or confirmed which powertrains will be affected. The Large Platform architecture currently supports electrified configurations and inline-six engines, depending on model and market. Mazda is also developing its next-generation Skyactiv-Z combustion technology, although no confirmed connection between that program and these SUV revisions has been announced.
The four vehicles arrived at different points in Mazda’s product cycle. The CX-60 debuted in 2022, while the CX-70 joined the North American lineup in 2024. That age difference leaves open the possibility that updates could arrive on separate schedules.
Mazda also intends to reinforce the vehicles’ position at the top of its lineup. Moro said the company wants customers to recognize the models as Mazda flagships and acknowledged that reaching that objective will require time.
Mazda has not announced launch dates for the revised SUVs.
