Incentives cover new and used vehicles
Up to $3,000 for buyers of electric vehicles, on top of fed incentive
The number of provinces offering an incentive to buyers of electric vehicles is about to grow by one. The Government of Nova Scotia has just announced an incentive of up to $3,000 for electric vehicle and PHEV buyers, one that includes used vehicles and e-bikes as well.
“Bold action on climate change is a priority. We know it’s possible to have a cleaner economy that creates jobs, supports a healthy environment and benefits all Nova Scotians,” said just sworn-in Premier Iain Rankin. “Electric vehicles, more comfortable homes, healthier communities and careers in renewable energy and efficiency will help our province and the planet.”
Rebates of $3,000 for new vehicles as well as $2,000 for used cars and trucks will come from a new $19 million fund, which will also include $500 for e-bike buyers. Currently in Nova Scotia, the province says, there are fewer than 500 EVs registered but there are now more than 100 charging stations. Though many of those charging stations are Level 2 chargers with a single plug located at municipal buildings like town halls and arenas.
The province didn’t announce the necessary qualifications to receive the rebate, or what vehicles and price points would fit under the new incentive. It’s expected that those details will be announced shortly. There was also nothing in the announcement to help build a more extensive charging network inside the province.
