The Automotive Journalists Association of Canada announced today its three finalists for each of the 2021 Canadian Car of the Year awards.
The Genesis G80, Kia K5, and Mazda3 are the three finalists for the Canadian Car of the Year award while the Genesis GV80, Nissan Rogue, and Kia Telluride are the last left in the running for the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year title.
It was the first year of eligibility for the Genesis G80 and Genesis GV80 as well as the Kia K5. The Mazda3 won the title of Canadian Car of the Year in 2020 and will be looking to become the first repeat winner in AJAC history for the car category. The Jaguar I-Pace won the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year award in 2019 and 2020.
Each vehicle previously won its respective category. Winners will be announced on March 30, 2021.
The winners are determined after tabulating votes from AJAC members taken during the year after driving each eligible vehicle. AJAC journalists also meet in October for intensive track testing and back to back evaluations of most vehicles eligible for the award, but the event, called Test Fest, was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Still, AJAC journalists tested over 75 vehicles this year.
