AJAC Announces Finalists for the 2023 Canadian Car and Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year Award

The AJAC 2023 Canadian Car of the Year Award and the 2023 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year Award winners will be declared at the Canadian Auto in Toronto


  • From last month’s category winners, we now have six finalists.

  • The finalists are a mix of EVs and ICEs.


Over the course of the year, there were more than 1,700 votes cast in this year’s AJAC awards for the roughly 250 vehicles up for consideration. All vehicles available on the market today were part of this list – whether recently redesigned, just updated, or carried over from the previous year.

AJAC Announces 2023 Canadian Car, Utility Vehicle of the Year Category Winners

Expert jurors from Vancouver to Halifax voted on the vehicles, having driven each one on the same roads and through the same conditions drivers across Canada face each day.

“In producing these results, our journalist members demonstrated fierce dedication to their craft and informing Canadian drivers of the vehicles worthy of their purchase consideration in 2023,” said Michel Crépault, AJAC president.

The three finalists for the 2023 Canadian Car of the Year are:
BMW i4 (Best Premium EV in Canada for 2023)
Hyundai Elantra N (Best Sports Performance Car in Canada for 2023)
Mazda3 (Best Small Car in Canada for 2023)

The three finalists for the 2023 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year are: �
Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Best EV in Canada for 2023)
Kia Telluride (Best Large Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2023)
Mitsubishi Outlander (Best Mid-Size Utility Vehicle in Canadaï for 2023)

The unveiling of the AJAC 2023 Canadian Car of the Year Award and the 2023 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year Award winners will be hosted live at the Canadian International Auto Show on Thursday, February 16th starting at 8:00 AM Eastern Time.
