BMW 6 Series Coupe rendering shows what a modernized classic can look like
Rendering features all the distinctive elements of the first 6 Series including the Shark nose
The first BMW 6 Series remains one of the most desirable cars ever produced, even more than 40 years after its introduction. The first-generation E24 6 Series lasted from 1976 to 1989 before taking a long hiatus.
It came back 14 years later as the E63 6 Series with a completely different, Chris Bangle design that we all got used to, but that was far from the original. The 6 Series is still available, but it’s no longer a coupe. It has evolved into a tall wagon while coupe duties at BMW have been taken over by the new 8 Series.
Now, German designer Grigory Butin has reimagined the original BMW 6 Series, coming back to the iconic design and modernizing its most distinctive elements. The shark nose hood is back in this 6 Series rendering as is the prominent front lip. The raked windshield and long hood are other design elements taken from the original.
BMW’s kidney grill is featured, but not as prominently as it is on the new 4 Series. It’s actually more reminiscent of the E63 6 Series.
“Being always a huge fan of old BMW’s I wanted to pay tributes to the amazing E24 body and create a spiritual successor to this beautiful car keeping the essence of this timeless design. At the same time the idea was not to do a hommage, but rather something re-imagined and still unique,” Butin wrote on Behance.
This BMW 6 Series rendering won’t happen anytime soon, but it’s always fun to see what could be.
