CAR NEWS: What you need to know about the Tesla truck unveiled tonight

Tesla is getting ready to unveil a new product tonight which means that, essentially, the world will stop turning for a few moments. Like the late Steve Jobs when he introduced a new iPhone, Elon Musk has mastered the art of captivating crowds and generating a level of craze that other manufacturers can only envy from afar.

New Tesla Model S? A new Model Y sub-compact SUV? Actually no. Tesla is preparing to present its new truck, a product it has been sporadically talking about for more than a year now.

In 2016, Musk said he wanted to address and electrify every segments of the transportation industry. This new truck will be the first representation of this vision developed in Tesla’s corporate mission, part two.

Unlike its cars, however, Tesla will face a much fiercer competition in the electric truck segment. Several manufacturers have already identified a crying need to make the merchandise transport more efficient, and there are therefore a host of electric trucks on the way.

What can we expect from the Tesla truck? In the first place its range will probably be very impressive. Tesla will not make the mistake of presenting a semi-trailer that is not capable of meeting the needs of companies that sometimes require their fleet to cross an entire continent.

Furthermore, the charging system will probably be quite advanced, and it will probably take very little time to recharge a Tesla truck. Once again, the needs of a transportation company are quite different from those of the general public. Waiting hours to get a full range would simply not be acceptable.

All that being said, we really do not have much information about the new Tesla truck. We’ll know more tonight, or at the very least we’ll be once again impressed by Elon Musk’s ability to captivate an entire planet.
