Ram trademark filing shows possible name for EV pickup
Concept debut set for Jan 5
The Ram electric pickup has a name. Or at least a strong possibility of one thanks to a recently uncovered filing with the US Patent and Trade Office.
Ram is expected to launch the pickup at CES 2023 later this week, and we weren’t sure if the brand would go with a new name like Ford with the F-150 Lightning or take the easy road like the Chevrolet Silverado EV.
It looks like the name will go right down the middle and the truck will be called the Ram 1500 REV. That’s according to the patent office filing found by CarBuzz at the end of last month.
Since Ram had been referring to the truck as the Ram Revolution, we had thought that would be the name going on the tailgate. But it looks like the wording is more of a slogan and advertising campaign than it is an actual name for a truck. Still the Ram REV (is that Ram Electric Vehicle?) has a pretty solid ring to it. Even if you can’t actually rev an EV.
Trademark filings aren’t always a guarantee of future product or naming. Sometimes an automaker is simply looking to protect itself from someone else taking a good name. But this one, filed just a couple of weeks before the debut of the concept truck, seems like it’s more firm than most.
Of course, it could also be the name Ram wants to use for the range-extender model it has previously announced. Ram Range Extended Vehicle fits the acronym just as well as EV. For the full story, stay tuned on January 5th when Ram plans to reveal the concept EV truck.
