Dodge Journey Successor Might be Called Hornet

Now that the Journey is dead, Dodge needs a new midsize SUV, and it might get one of the coolest names in the business

  • The Hornet name is no stranger to the car world.

  • The rumoured Hornet would be a midsized, electrified SUV.

  • It could arrive next year as a 2023 model year vehicle.

Dodge is one of FCA/Stellantis’ many brands that needs a new lease on life. Although extremely successful, the likes of the Challenger, Charger, and Durango are getting old. We know that Dodge will introduce a new muscle car in the near future (it’ll be electric, but we don’t talk about it…) and now, it looks as though a new midsize SUV/CUV is also on the way.

The Dodge Journey had quite a long journey after more than a decade of sales with only minor upgrades. Despite its average-ness, the Journey was extremely successful and will need to be replaced if Dodge wants to continue making sales and money.

According to Jalopnik, there’s a strong possibility that Dodge’s next new SUV will be called Hornet. This vehicle will be Jeep Compass-sized and be based on the soon to arrive Alfa Romeo Tonale. As we know, the Alfa is a PHEV that is also powered by the turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine. This powertrain would certainly fit the Hornet name and the Dodge family image.

The Hornet name was once affixed to Hudson and AMC vehicles, and most recently, a Dodge Concept.
