Electric 2024 Porsche Macan Launches With 630 Hp

Welcome the next electric Porsche

  • Electric Macan will be offered alongside gas

  • Quickest model hits 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds

The first electric Porsche Macan is a 630 hp rocket of a crossover. The 2024 Macan brings the baby Porsche SUV into the next generation with a new platform, a new driver display system, and a seriously powerful driveline.

Porsche will offer the electric Macan in two versions for 2024. There’s the Macan 4, which makes 402 hp and 479 lb-ft from its two electric motors on overboost, and there’s the Macan Turbo with 630 and 833 lb-ft. The slower of the two hits 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, with the turbo taking just 3.3.

Compared with the gas model, which Porsche will continue to build with the old body, those are big performance improvements. The quickest gas Macan is the 434 hp GTS model, with Macan and Macan T making well under 300 horses.

Porsche is using its new Premium Platform Electric, developed in partnership with Audi. It has a 100 kWh battery and an 800v electrical system that lets it charge at up to 270 kW. Porsche says it will do 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes, and it can charge at 11 kW on Level 2.

The bodywork is clearly Porsche, though the tall, closed-off nose is awkward. The headlights and shape combine the Taycan EV with the Porsche SUV design for a model that’s recognizable, if not an instant looker.

This Macan is about the same size as the old gas model but has slightly more cargo space inside. It also has an 84L frunk under the hood. The driver and passengers sit lower, meaning an even lower center of gravity and more cabin room.

The dash is a 12.6-inch screen that’s familiar from other current Porsches. A 10.9-inch screen handles the infotainment, and there’s an optional 10.9-inch screen for the passenger that can be used to stream video. The screens run a new infotainment system for Porsche, with claims of better voice assistant performance and the addition of augmented reality to the head-up display.

Air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management is standard on the electric Macan. That includes new dampers with a wider range between comfort and firm. Rear-wheel steering is optional, a first for the Macan line.

The 2024 Porsche Macan 4 starts from $99,300, or about the same as the 2024 GTS gas model. The Macan Turbo starts from $125,300, and deliveries are set to start in the second half of this year. Expect range figures and full options info shortly before the start of deliveries.
