Genesis marked its 10th anniversary with the global premiere of the G90 Wingback Concep a few weeks ago. The luxury high-performance design study, a shooting break or station wagon, was revealed alongside the GV60 Magma, the brand’s first Magma production vehicle. The concept signals the automaker’s plan to expand its Magma line beyond electric crossovers and SUVs, and for that, we are thankful.
Built on the existing G90 sedan platform, the G90 Wingback Concept retains its 3.2-metre wheelbase and 5.1-metre length. However, the vehicle adopts a grand tourer-style wagon silhouette, distinguished by flared haunches, dual rear spoilers, and a sharply raked rear window. The exterior is adorned with the Genesis Crest Grille, Parabolic Line, and Two-Line headlamps, while a sculpted front bumper, canards, and 22-inch wheels – this isn’t a Caprice Estate…
Inside, the cabin integrates subtle green Magma stitching throughout the Chamude-upholstered seats, doors, and dashboard, while the Magma logo is embroidered on the seatbacks. The interior layout combines Genesis’ luxury materials with clean visual cues associated with the Magma identity.
Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke described the G90 Wingback Concept as a “bridge between Magma and the One of One bespoke program.” According to Donckerwolke, the concept responds to growing market saturation in the SUV segment and reflects a deliberate move to diversify Genesis’ future portfolio. “This is when other typologies of cars are going to become attractive again,” he said.
Finished in deep green, the Wingback’s shade departs from the Magma line’s usual orange palette, offering a different expression of the brand’s performance design language. The concept embodies what Donckerwolke referred to as “the materialization of the iron fist in a velvet glove”—a theme expected to carry through as Genesis applies the Magma design philosophy to additional vehicle categories, including sports cars, coupes, and convertibles.
The G90 Wingback Concept isn’t just a styling exercise. We firmly believe Genesis will build it to compete with the Audi RS 6 Avant, BMW M5 Touring, and Mercedes-AMG E 63 estate. Maybe this will prompt Cadillac to launch a wagon version of the CT5-V when it returns…
