2026 Prelude to feature Civic Type R’s dual-axis front suspension and Brembo brakes.
First hybrid-electric Prelude will use Civic Hybrid’s two-motor system with new S+ Shift mode.
Prelude scheduled to reach Canadian dealerships in late 2025 as a grand touring sports coupe.
Honda has shared excellent news: The 2026 Prelude, scheduled to arrive at Canadian dealerships later this year, will adopt key chassis components from the Civic Type R, including its dual-axis front suspension system, wide front and rear track widths, and Brembo braking system.
Is There a Honda Prelude Type R Hybrid or Electric in our Future?
This marks the first time Honda’s dual-axis front suspension, originally developed for the FK8 2017 Civic Type R, will be used in a model outside of the Type R performance line. According to the automaker, the Prelude’s suspension and braking systems will be tuned specifically for grand touring performance, balancing driving engagement and everyday comfort.
In the FK8 and FL5 Civic Type R, the suspension provides incredible control and responsiveness. The dual-axis front suspension isolates steering from the dampers, limiting the impact of weight transfers on steering components. In no uncertain terms, the Type R’s chassis is among the best of its kind in the car business.

The upcoming Prelude will also be the first hybrid-electric version of the coupe in its history. It will use Honda’s two-motor hybrid system, the same powertrain currently offered in the Civic Hybrid, which was named 2025 North American Car of the Year. For the Prelude, this system will be paired with Honda’s new S+ Shift mode, designed to simulate conventional gear changes using Linear Shift Control technology.
No pricing or detailed technical specifications have been announced at this time.
