Hyundai is launching a new electric offensive in China with its IONIQ brand, supported by two concepts that signal a more localized, technology-driven and user-focused approach.
- Official launch of the fully electric IONIQ brand in China with a strategy tailored to the local market
- Introduction of two concepts: VENUS (sedan) and EARTH (family SUV) as a vision for the future
- Integration of China-specific technologies, including autonomous driving and EREV solutions
A Targeted Electric Push for China
Hyundai Motor Company has officially launched its all-electric IONIQ brand in China during an event held in Beijing ahead of Auto China 2026.
Beyond simply unveiling new models, the Korean automaker presented an ambitious strategy aimed at strengthening its presence in the world’s largest electrified vehicle market. The goal is clear: transform IONIQ into a complete mobility experience, rather than just a product lineup.
The two concepts introduced, VENUS and EARTH, embody this new direction and highlight Hyundai’s intent to meet the specific demands of China’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market.
IONIQ: A Global Brand with Local Adaptation
Already well established globally with models such as the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6 and IONIQ 9, the IONIQ brand has built strong recognition among consumers.
In China, Hyundai is going further by turning IONIQ into a full ecosystem. While maintaining its global standards in safety and quality, the brand will integrate technologies, services and experiences specifically tailored to Chinese customers.

Another distinctive element: future IONIQ models for China will adopt a naming convention inspired by planets, reflecting a customer-centric philosophy where the user sits at the center of this new universe. This approach moves away from traditional numbering and size-based hierarchy.
VENUS: A Bold Sedan Concept
The first concept, VENUS, positions itself as an iconic sedan with a strong design identity. Inspired by the brightest planet, it features a sleek and instantly recognizable silhouette.
Its exterior, finished in a striking gold tone, incorporates high-tech elements such as a lightweight structured roof and a transparent spoiler. A single flowing line defines its profile, creating a distinctive visual signature.
Inside, the cabin is driver-focused with a wraparound cockpit. Ambient lighting, contrasting materials between suede and metallic finishes, and an interactive character named “Lumi” create a premium yet playful atmosphere.
EARTH: A Robust and Tech-Focused Family SUV
In contrast to VENUS, the EARTH concept takes the form of a family SUV with solid proportions and a more muscular design. Inspired by the balance of planet Earth, it blends strength with modernity.

Its exterior features sculpted surfaces and rugged elements such as skid plates, giving it a strong presence.
The interior is designed as a calm and functional space, with innovative “air-hug” seats incorporating inflatable modules for enhanced comfort. Ambient lighting mimics natural shadows, while discreet technology and Beijing-inspired details add an immersive dimension.
A Technology Strategy Tailored to China
Hyundai also used the event to outline key technology directions specific to the Chinese market. These include the integration of autonomous driving systems developed with local partners, as well as market-specific solutions such as extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs).
This approach reflects a clear objective: deliver practical solutions designed to meet the real-world needs of Chinese consumers in a rapidly evolving market.
A New Strategic Direction
The VENUS and EARTH concepts are more than design studies. They serve as concrete indicators of where the brand is heading in the coming years. With distinctive design, localized technologies and a reimagined user experience, IONIQ is entering a pivotal phase of its development in China.
