Infiniti will launch QX65 in 2026, then add a V6 to it and likely the QX60 in 2027.
The fastback crossover is positioned between discontinued compact QX50 models and the three-row QX60.
Infiniti expects controlled rollout volumes as it targets new luxury buyers and downsizing SUV owners.
Infiniti is preparing the 2027 QX65’s engine bay to receive a six-cylinder option, giving the incoming midsize crossover coupe a quicker path to a performance identity as the luxury brand works to rebuild demand.

The QX65 is scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2026 as Infiniti’s first fresh new model introduction since the pandemic. At launch, it will use the dubious 268-hp 2.0L variable-compression turbo four-cylinder carried over from the QX50, QX55, and QX60 platforms, the latter of which the vehicle is based on.
A person familiar with the plan said that the 3.5-litre V6 is expected to join the lineup in summer 2027. The engine, used in the Nissan Pathfinder at 284 hp, is expected to be tuned to about 300 hp for the Infiniti application. That addition would also create a potential route to a future Red Sport version. As we know, the Q sedan is expected to make a comeback, as well. Its Red Sport iteration, like the Nissan Z, was powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0L engine, good for up to 400hp. The QX60 and QX65 could be turned into BMW M-light and Mercedes-AMG-light fighters with little effort.
Bold Moves! Infiniti to Relaunch Q50 Sedan in 2027 With RWD and Manual Transmission
The move is notable because it reconnects Infiniti with a performance-led image the luxury automaker had so wonderfully curated, then systematically dismantled. The brand has spent recent years leaning heavily on family-oriented utility vehicles while its North American sales have fallen dramatically since the pandemic.
Nissan U.S. sales chief Tiago Castro said offering a V6 could raise QX65 sales by more than 10%, arguing that many buyers in the market still value six-cylinder power. Edmunds analyst Ivan Drury said six-cylinder engines represented 41% of luxury midsize crossover sales last year, suggesting the configuration remains relevant even if it may not dramatically alter Infiniti’s market position.
Infiniti executives had linked the initial four-cylinder-only launch to emissions rules that were in place when the vehicle was first planned. The recently changed policies have since given automakers more room to reconsider powertrain choices.
Nissan Closes Mexico Plant, Lists Yokohama HQ for Sale, Plans Rogue-Based Infiniti SUV
The QX65 is expected to occupy an important middle space in Infiniti’s lineup, sitting abreast of its near twin, the QX60. In time, a new entry-level SUV based on the Rogue will appear to sit beneath the two. Though the QX60 and QX65 are important, the upcoming gateway SUV should have a far more profound impact on Infiniti’s fortunes.
The QX65’s target buyers include first-time luxury customers moving up and empty-nesters stepping down from larger SUVs. Pricing is forthcoming, as are deliveries, which are expected to begin in a few short months.
