Lessees can get up to $7,500 off the price of the electric crossover.
Buyers can also benefit from up to $3,750 on the cash price of an EV6.
No similar program has been announced for Canadian buyers at the moment.
Kia of America has announced new rebates for the EV6 electric crossover in the United States in order to better compete with Tesla and other EVs manufactured in North America.
With the changes to the U.S. federal EV incentives that came into effect last year, electric vehicles now need to be manufactured in North America using mainly local components in order to benefit from government incentives.
Since the Kia EV6 is made in South Korea, the electric SUV is no longer eligible for these rebates and thus more expensive than many of its rivals.
In addition, Tesla has been aggressively cutting the price of its models in the last few months, forcing other automakers to follow suit in order to stay competitive.
To face these challenges, Kia will now offer its own rebates on the EV6 for some qualifying buyers.
For starters, those who want to lease an EV6 might be able to benefit from a reduction of up to $7,500, meaning they could lease a base model rear-wheel drive variant for $499 per month for 36 months with an initial cash down of $4,999.
Those who prefer to buy are also included in the new rebates since they can get up to $3,750 in bonus cash at purchase.
While these offers are only valid until July 5th, they could help the electric Kia gain popularity this summer by making it a better deal for U.S. buyers.
At the moment, the EV6 and its Hyundai IONIQ 5 sibling remain some of the most modern EVs on the market since they are the most affordable options to feature an 800-volt battery architecture that allows charging at up to 350 kW, which means going from 10 to 80% charge in only about 18 minutes.
Furthermore, the EV6 and EV6 GT have been named North American Car of the Year and World Performance Car of the Year respectively in 2023.
For now, Kia Canada has not announced a similar incentive program for the electric crossover.
