Mercedes-Benz wants Half of its US sales to be EVs by 2030, Commits to Dealership Model

  • Mercedes-Benz thinks electric vehicles will help it regain the sales it lost in the last two years

  • The company wants half of its sales in the US to be EVs by the end of the decade

  • Unlike many other automakers, Mercedes-Benz wants to keep the traditional dealership model going

During a recent dealer meeting, Mercedes-Benz announced its goal for the rest of the decade, which is to have half of its sales in the United States be electric vehicles.

In order to speed up the public knowledge and acceptance of its EVs, the automaker will heavily focus on them in its ad campaigns over the next few years.

In the more immediate future, Mercedes is hoping its new electric vehicles will help it return to the annual sales volumes it was seeing before the pandemic, which hurt the brand more than others.

For 2023, Mercedes-Benz targets US sales of 350,000 units, which is almost the same number of vehicles it sold in 2019, the last year before the effects of the pandemic took their toll.

The company is confident that the sales of its EQS and the upcoming EQB, EQE, EQS SUV, and EQE SUV will be sufficient to close the gap between its current sales and its previous record, with an expected total of 45,000 units for those models combined.

At the same event, the automaker also committed to keeping its current dealer model instead of turning towards online sales, which is the direction in which many other automakers are going.

This means that no major changes are to be expected in the process used to buy a Mercedes-Benz vehicle in the United States over the next few years, despite the automaker already selling cars directly to consumers in Europe, notably in Germany.

Mercedes is expecting its American dealership network to shrink a bit however since the automaker believes that smaller independent dealers will not be able to afford the investment needed to prepare for the arrival of more and more electric vehicles from the brand.
