Bentley adds style with new carbon rims from Mulliner
Cuts 6 kg from each corner of the SUV
Feeling the absolute need to slash the weight of your two-and-a-half tonne Bentley Bentayga? Mulliner has you covered with a new 22-inch wheel that will slash six kilos from each corner and make your Bentayga the coolest one on the lot.
The new 22-inch wheel took five years of engineering, Mulliner says. That time is because it has gone some of the most rigorous wheel testing in the world. Bentley calls it the first carbon fibre wheel that has passed all of the rigorous tests of German safety group TUV’s standards for wheels. That means stresses in nearly every direction including being able to take an impact that would shatter an aluminum wheel. The carbon rim still breaks, but it deflates slowly instead of catastrophically, making it easier to get safely to the side of the road.
It is also the largest carbon fibre wheel in production, at least until Bentley decides that a 23-inch or 24-inch wheel is needed. This carbon hoop has been tested on the Nurburgring, and the company says it will offer the equivalent of an extra full degree of camber during 1g cornering because the wheel doesn’t flex like an alloy.
That should also mean reduced tire wear if that’s something you’re worried about on your Bentley. We’re sure it will make up for the price, which hasn’t yet been announced but will undoubtedly be massive.
Mulliner recommends you pair it with the Styling Specification with carbon front splitter, sills, and rear diffuser when the orders open later this year.
