New 2020 Ford Bronco Design Will Please Purists

The Ford Bronco will be a true sport utility vehicle that will live up to its iconic name.

That’s what Ford North American President Kumal Gaholtra told Automotive News about the upcoming 2020 Ford Bronco. Considering the Bronco a brand asset, Gaholtra says the new SUV’s design will be based on the previous Broncos and aligned with the nameplate’s identity.

It’s too early to know what that means exactly, but we do expect the new Ford Bronco to share a boxy, rugged design with previous-generation Broncos. We don’t expect to see too many rounded edges and we should expect the 2020 Bronco to be a proper SUV with true off-road properties.

In other words, Ford won’t just bring back the Bronco name for any SUV. Will it be as rugged and raw as a Jeep Wrangler? We’ll have to wait and see.

Galhotra did say that he expect buyers to have high expectations of the new 2020 Bronco and that Ford would have to make sure they delivered in that regard. He compared the upcoming Bronco to the Ford Mustang which has kept its original DNA throughout every generation. He believes the new Ford Bronco will be able to do the same.

So when will we see the 2020 Ford Bronco? That remains to be seen but we expect it will happen this summer or fall at a private unveiling far from the distractions that come with an auto show.
