Sales are up 326% in the first quarter of the year.
In March alone, sales shot up 200%.
This is extremely gratifying news, and not entirely surprising. If you are into cars and active in the community, you probably know someone who’s bought a new Toyota GR 86.
The first-generation Sion FR-S/Toyota 86 (and Subaru BRZ) was just shy of excellent. When Toyota and Subaru sat down for the encore, they must have spent a fair amount of time online reading owner comments and/or participated in many track-day events. The new GR86 is now very excellent.
So strong is the love for the new 2022 Toyota GR 86 that sales are up 326% in the first quarter of 2022 (compared to 2021). This past March alone, sale numbers jumped 200% as reported by CarBuzz.
Interestingly, Subaru BRZ sales, although good, are nowhere near as strong as the GR 86’s. There’s likely a correlation between Subaru’s troubled launch of the new WRX and the fact that they’ve abandoned the WRX STI, at least for now.
No matter which car is purchased, however, the data shows that if automakers listen to their typically captive audience, they will reap the benefits. Now, if only Mitsubishi and Acura were paying attention…
