New York Auto Show — 2027 Chrysler Pacifica: Variations on a Theme

It was under the spotlights of the New York International Auto Show that Stellantis officially pulled the wraps off the 2027 Chrysler Pacifica. We had caught a glimpse of the model a few weeks ago, but now it is official. The star of the day on the American automaker side — a group that does not show much at auto shows anymore — brings a breath of fresh air to a segment that has been a shadow of its former self for years: the minivan.

  • The minivan is in its 43rd year at Stellantis.

  • The plug-in hybrid version is dropped for 2027.

  • So far, the company has sold 16,6 millions units, including, 1,15 million Pacificas

The good news is that the segment is not dead and has relied on the same players for several years: Honda, Toyota, Kia, and Stellantis. For Chrysler, this is more than just a question of one model; it is a question of survival.

So, what does the 2027 Pacifica have in store?

A pioneer

Chrysler proudly reminded everyone that it invented the minivan 43 years ago with the 1984 Voyager. With the 2027 Pacifica, the brand makes clear it has no intention of abandoning the segment it created. This mid-cycle styling refresh, and make no mistake, this is not an all-new generation, represents the most significant update in several years. The changes are clearly aimed at freshening up the vehicle’s image while preserving what has always worked.

The front end is where the transformation is most striking. Most trims, including the top-of-the-line Pinnacle, wear a new face featuring vertical LED headlights, an illuminated grille with piano-key accents, and a revised front bumper.

The new winged Chrysler logo also makes an appearance, first seen on the Halcyon concept in 2024. The base trim retains its current look while remaining well equipped, with power-sliding doors, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel. New exterior colors and updated wheel designs round out the exterior refresh.

Inside

The interior evolves as well, though more subtly. The new Chrysler logo in satin chrome adorns the steering wheel, and decorative accents have been updated across the various trim levels. The Pinnacle trim gets an exclusive new Agave Blue interior theme with copper accents.

The Pacifica continues to offer seating for seven or eight passengers and retains its Stow ‘n Go seating system, still unique to the segment. The second and third-row seats fold flat into the floor in seconds, freeing up an unmatched amount of cargo space (3964 litres)

Technology continues to advance, with a broad suite of apps and systems available. It remains to be seen whether the Canadian specification will differ from what is available in the U.S. market, but rest assured, the model will not be short on features. Stellantis also mentions improved audio and additional power outlets for the rear rows. A power liftgate with adjustable height becomes standard across all trim levels — a welcome touch, given that not all owners are the same height.

Under the hood, no surprises: the trusty 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 returns, producing 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive remains optional on higher trims.

On a less positive note, the plug-in hybrid version is being let go. This is not unique to the Pacifica, as Stellantis has stepped back from that technology more broadly.

The model will continue to be assembled at the Stellantis plant in Windsor, Ontario. The plant will also continue building the Grand Caravan, which is kept on in Canada as a more affordable option, even if truly affordable choices are harder to come by than they once were.

Conclusion

It is genuinely reassuring to see a manufacturer like Stellantis still believe in the minivan. Yes, the segment is not what it once was, but it has been stable for some time now.
