Back in January 2026, GM announced its intention to unveil the new 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 this year, and as promised, the next-generation full-size pickup truck just made its global debut.
The Silverado boasts a new exterior design, a new pair of V8 engines, an overhauled interior with fresh new tech, more comfort and convenience features as well as a revised trim level lineup in order to better compete with the Ford F-150, the Ram 1500, the Toyota Tundra and, well, GM’s own GMC Sierra 1500.
First and foremost, and though details are light for now, the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will likely continue to ride on the same platform as the 2019-to-2026 model, though we expect the usual improvements in ride quality and suspension tuning. There are now seven trim levels to choose from, including Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Z71 (Silverado in the U.S.), Trail Boss, ZR2 and High Country. That means the LT, LTZ and RST variants are gone, all replaced by the Z71 trim level. This leaves the lineup without a sporty variant, or a street truck, to compete with the F-150 Lobo and the Ram 1500 Rumble Bee. Regular Cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab configurations all return for 2027, in addition to short bed, standard bed and long bed lengths.
The big news is the arrival of two new engines, as the six-generation small-block V8 GM has been talking about for the past year or so will make its way under the hood of the light-duty pickup. Output and technical details are forthcoming, but a 5.7L V8 and a 6.6L V8 will be offered, replacing the current 355-horsepower 5.3L V8 and 420-horsepower 6.2L V8 engines.
GM also confirmed that the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L four-cylinder would be “enhanced” and will be matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission instead of the previous eight-speed unit. We don’t yet know what “enhanced” means, but it could indicate a power boost. The engine currently develops 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the base WT will now offer the Duramax turbodiesel 3.0L inline-six engine as an option. Though GM said PHEVs will arrive in its lineup in 2027, the Silverado isn’t getting a plug-in hybrid powertrain, at least not yet.
The Silverado ZR2 is back as the top-shelf off-roader, which benefits from bigger 35-inch all-terrain tires, a hood power dome, standard front and e-lockers as well as new jounce dampers to accompany the Multimatic DSSV suspension. The Bison edition will return as well for extra off-road capability, which we’re expecting to offer underbody protection, 18-inch beadlock wheels and unique bumpers, as before. The more basic Z71 off-road package will be fitted as standard on all 4WD units.
From a styling perspective, the Silverado gets new body panels from one bumper to another, a front fascia with signature LED lighting that resembles the one on the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, as well as revised taillights. All trim levels get wheel arch mouldings, most get new alloy wheel designs and a roof spoiler integrating all of the vehicle’s communication antennae, while the handy CornerStep rear bumper steps remain and the Multi-Flex tailgate is still available, though seemingly revised.
The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 also boasts an all-new interior. The Multi-Flex centre console is new, providing sliding cupholders and storage, a bigger storage bin underneath the armrest, and the latter can fold out into a flat work surface as needed. A 12.2-inch digital driver instrument cluster and a 16.3-inch infotainment system touchscreen are standard across the board, while head-up display and a new passenger-side, 11.5-inch display are available on the ZR2 and High Country.
These two range-topping variants get more luxurious interiors, both featuring two-tone seat belts, forged carbon trim in the ZR2 and real wood trim in the High Country. The latter also gets a panoramic sunroof, light and dark interior themes, Tritan Satin accenting as well as optional microfiber suede inserts.
There’s still a lot to learn about the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado, and GM will likely drop tidbits of information here and there until production of the next-gen pickup starts this fall. That means pricing, engine output, towing and payload ratings, among other things, will be revealed in the next weeks and months. The Silverado 1500 is currently built in Oshawa, Ontario, in Indiana, USA and in Silao, Mexico.
