LEAF NISMO launches first in Japan with performance-focused chassis and software upgrades.
Peak output remains unchanged despite quicker acceleration response.

Nissan has launched the LEAF NISMO in Japan, adding a performance-focused variant to the third-generation EV as the company continues expanding its NISMO road car lineup. Sales began July 22, with the new model arriving six months after the latest LEAF entered the Japanese market.
Built on the all-new LEAF, the NISMO version keeps the standard vehicle’s electric motors and battery options but receives chassis, software and aerodynamic enhancements to improve driving dynamics rather than increase peak power output.
2027 Nissan Leaf Nismo | Photo: NissanThe flagship B7 NISMO continues to produce 160 kW (214 hp) and 355 Nm (262 lb-ft) of torque, while the B5 NISMO delivers 130 kW (174 hp) and 345 Nm (254 lb-ft). Nissan said revised powertrain calibration improves throttle response and delivers approximately 20% stronger initial acceleration than the standard LEAF despite unchanged maximum output.
Suspension revisions include NISMO-specific springs, stabilizers and suspension bushings to increase rigidity and sharpen steering response. Swing valve shock absorbers, previously introduced on the X-Trail NISMO, are designed to reduce initial body roll and maintain ride comfort over varying road surfaces. The vehicle also receives Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires mounted on lightweight 19-inch Enkei aluminum wheels.

Software updates a retuned the Standard, ECO and Sport drive modes, with the Sport setting renamed NISMO Mode. The LEAF NISMO also becomes the first NISMO EV to feature dedicated regenerative braking paddle calibration, allowing drivers to select four levels of deceleration with revised braking characteristics.
Exterior revisions focus on improving aerodynamics as well as appearance. Exclusive front bumper corner finishers guide airflow along the vehicle’s sides, while dedicated lower door trim, a redesigned rear bumper incorporating a boat-hull-shaped under spoiler and an extended ducktail spoiler increase downforce. NISMO-exclusive Stealth Gray paint joins the colour palette alongside signature red exterior accents.

A RECARO-equipped grade adds specially tuned front seats engineered to improve driver support.
The LEAF NISMO’s launch is part of Nissan’s strategy to grow its NISMO brand. They’d previously announced plans to double the global NISMO lineup from five models to 10. Chief Performance Officer Guillaume Cartier said the LEAF NISMO is planned for North America and Europe, although launch timing has not yet been announced.
