Originally recognized for its collaboration with Volvo on high-performance vehicles, Polestar underwent a transformative phase in 2017 following Geely’s acquisition of Volvo. Subsequently, the introduction of the Polestar 1 hybrid marked the brand’s entry into the passenger vehicle domain, offering an elegant design and an impressive all-electric range of up to 125 kilometers.
The pivotal year of 2019 saw the launch of the Polestar 2, which solidified the brand’s full commitment to electric vehicles. The premium electric performance sedan swiftly garnered international attention, emerging as a formidable contender in key markets like Norway, Sweden, Germany, the UK, and Belgium.
The evolution of the Polestar 2 has been a continuous process, characterized by regular over-the-air (OTA) updates and model enhancements. The recent unveiling of the 2024 model year witnessed substantial improvements, including upgraded batteries, more potent electric motors, rear-wheel-drive options, and the innovative Polestar SmartZone feature. This innovation replaces the traditional front grille with advanced cameras, sensors, and radar, bolstering safety measures.
The UK market, in particular, has witnessed Polestar’s remarkable growth, with a staggering 174% surge in new vehicle registrations for the Polestar 2 compared to the previous year. The heightened appeal of the Polestar 2 can be attributed to its enhanced specifications, encompassing software improvements, superior quality, extended range, and faster charging capabilities.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath expressed his satisfaction with the achievement, deeming the upgraded Polestar 2 as the brand’s finest iteration to date. The 2024 Polestar 2 boasts a significantly extended WLTP range of up to 654 km and supports charging speeds of up to 205 kW with the new 82 kWh battery.
