The new Porsche 911 Dakar will feature a hybrid powertrain for enhanced on- and off-road performance.
Porsche’s T-Hybrid system combines a turbocharged 3.6L engine with an electric motor for increased power.
Limited production and new customization options are planned, with pricing expected to exceed its predecessor.
Porsche plans to reintroduce the 911 Dakar with a hybrid powertrain based on the 992.2 facelifted 911. The new model is expected to debut by the end of 2025 and will be produced in limited numbers like the previous model, of which only 2,500 were produced.
The upcoming 911 Dakar will adopt Porsche’s T-Hybrid powertrain, which is currently used in the new 911 GTS. This system pairs a turbocharged 3.6-litre flat-six engine producing 478 bhp and 420 lb-ft of torque with a gearbox-mounted electric motor that adds 53 bhp and up to 111 lb-ft. The setup incorporates heat transfer technology from Porsche’s 919 Le Mans prototype to charge a 1.9 kWh battery.
2024 Porsche 911 Dakar Review: Off-Road 911 is More Fun Than Conceivable
The combined system output in the 911 GTS is 534 bhp and 450 lb-ft, representing an increase over the previous 911 Dakar’s 3.0-litre flat-six, which generated 473 bhp and 420 lb-ft. The additional power is expected to reduce the previous model’s 0-100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds.
The hybrid assistance is expected to improve fuel efficiency, with the 911 GTS achieving a combined 10.5-11.0 L/100 km. While official figures for the Dakar are not available, similar gains in efficiency are anticipated.
Limited Production and Customization Options
Like its predecessor, the new 911 Dakar will feature a raised suspension and off-road-focused design. It will be offered exclusively with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.
Porsche is also planning a range of new paint schemes and customization options through its Sonderwunsch (Special Wish) program. Pricing is expected to surpass the previous model’s $280,000++ price tag.
