The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox Gets Traverse-Inspired design and a New Activ Trim Level

The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox shows familiar styling, more standard features, and a revised powertrain.

  • The 2025 Equinox shares its design language with the recently launched 2024 Traverse.

  • The interior adopts the same dashboard treatment as most other new GM models.

  • The Equinox will be offered in LT, RS, and new Activ trim levels.

Earlier today, Chevrolet unveiled the fourth generation of the Equinox ahead of its arrival on the market later this year as a 2025 model.

Unsurprisingly, the 2025 Equinox is modernized in a similar way to the 2024 Traverse and Trailblazer, giving it a more rugged look than the current model.

This can be seen in the upright front fascia that adopts the split headlamp theme that is used by all of the other Chevrolet SUVs, which have all been refreshed or entirely redone in the last two years.

From the side, the new Equinox receives squared-off wheel arches lined with black plastic mouldings and a semi-floating roof design created via a shortened C-Pillar that doesn’t reach all the way up to the roof, as well as blacked-out B and D-Pillars. Again, this is a clear reference to the new Traverse.

The rear end shows similarities with other Chevrolet models once again, notably thanks to its horizontal taillamps that curve down at the edge of the body.

Inside, the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox will also be familiar to drivers who know the brand’s other models since it receives the same dashboard treatment as almost every other General Motors vehicle that was refreshed recently.

This means the new Equinox will be equipped with two large screens mounted in a single panel sat atop the dashboard, with a volume control being the single physical control present on that surface.

Fortunately, buttons and knobs for the climate control system are also included in the lower part of the dashboard, and a rotary drive mode selector takes the traditional place of the gear lever, which has been moved to the steering column.

The two screens, 11-inches for the instrument cluster and 11.3-inches for the infotainment system, are larger than the optional displays on the previous-generation model.

In addition, the 2025 Equinox will benefit from the Google Built-in infotainment system that was introduced recently by other GM models, featuring native support for apps such as Google Maps and the Google Assistant. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included.

Three versions

In terms of trim levels, Chevrolet will abandon the entry-level LS and the top-of-the-line Premier versions, leaving only the LT, RS, and the new Activ.

Starting with the LT, the new Equinox will benefit from standard heated front seats and steering wheel, available Evotex upholstery, a choice of chrome or midnight black exterior trim, all-LED lightning, 17-inch alloy wheels, and the availability of a black or white roof to be paired with one of six main paint colours.

Standard safety features include forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, following distance indicator, enhanced lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, among others.

The RS version is the sportiest of the three and it brings standard 19-inch or available 20-inch wheels, more aggressive front and rear bumpers, as well as black badges, an available black roof, and black roof rails. This version also includes Evotex upholstery as standard, paired with red and blue stitching, a  flat-bottom steering wheel, and embossed RS logos on the front headrests. Ventilated front seats and heated rear seats can also be added to this model.

Finally, the new Activ trim level gives the 2025 Equinox a more rugged appearance thanks to a different front bumper that adds dark grey elements around the grille and the headlamps, specific 17-inch alloy wheels, a unique suspension tuning, blacked-out badges, an available white roof, and the maple sugar and black interior trim.

One engine, two transmissions

The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox will be powered only by a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 175 horsepower, the same as the current model.

Unlike the 2024 Equinox however, the new model will abandon the old six-speed automatic in favour of a CVT unit in the front-wheel drive LT models or an eight-speed automatic in AWD versions. Speaking of all-wheel drive, it will be available in the LT and standard on both the RS and the Activ. This combination will give the 2025 Equinox a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.

Chevrolet has not announced how much the new Equinox will cost in the United States and Canada, but it says to expect this information closer to the start of production, which should take place in the coming months.
