After months of delay, production of the Rivian R1T is officially underway.
Rivian’s CEO, RJ Scaringe, drove off with it and lived to tell the story.
The first R1T is fittingly painted Rivian Blue.
We can only imagine the elation felt by Rivian employees and their CEO RJ Scaringe as he drives the first full-production R1T pickup off the line. To say this moment was long-awaited is an understatement. Rivian has been on the auto industry’s radar for a number of years and it’s now official: Production has begun.
Delays have plagued Rivian, as they have most of the industry, for the last year or so. Despite setbacks, complications (Tank Turn), and other difficulties, the first sellable R1T pickup has left the assembly line.
As reported by Insideevs, the first images and brief videos say little about the actual R1T other than it’s Rivian Blue and the person behind the wheel is Scaringe. As part of the original posts, there’s a description that says:
“Rivian’s first sellable vehicle, the R1T. A lot of hard work and long days have gone into the programming to build this vehicle, it was sweet to see that hardwork drive by with RJ behind the wheel.”
Rivian has thousands upon thousands of hand-raisers for both their R1T and R1S SUV not to mention a standing order from Amazon for 100,000 delivery vans. The future is looking bright indeed!
