Volvo’s making on its promise to deliver only EVs by 2030. Since the announcement barely over a year ago, they’ve introduced the extremely competent XC40 Recharge which will soon be followed by the C40 Recharge. Although it’s not clear if it’s the next in line, the new generation XC60 will be all-electric.
Expected by 2024, the all-new XC60 will no longer be available with petrol, diesel, or hybrid powertrains. What’s know is that the batteries will be sourced from Volvo and Northvolt’s recently announce battery development partnership. It will be assembled on Geely’s SEA EV platform, according to Caradisiac.
Between now and the arrival of the electric XC60, Volvo will introduce a significantly updated XC90. The big news is that Volvo will introduce a fully electric version which will be sold alongside petrol and PHEV versions.
We’re going to guess that the electric XC60 will benefit from the electric XC40’s and XC90’s powertrain for its various iterations. As a final note, the XC60 is Volvo’s global sales leader.
