Yes, for Europe. As we know, North America apparently loathes small cars, so the Volkswagen Polo’s replacement, the ID.2, is not slated for our market either. Its crossover variant, which will take over from the T-Cross CUV, will be called the ID.2 X and we won’t see anything like it either for years, if ever.
Already, the Old Continent is privy to the ID.3, a Golf-sized electric car which, by all accounts, will not come to North America either. Volkswagen is busy preparing to build EVs that our markets demand such as the new Chattanooga-assembled ID.4 and the soon-to-arrive ID. Buzz. More than likely, Volkswagen will be selling new Scout EVs before an ID.3 or ID.2 ever sees our shores.
Sadly, and although most consumers long for affordable EVs like the ID.2 and ID.3 (built in sufficient numbers and ideally in North America), we prefer larger SUVs which will always be costlier.
Both ID.2 models should be assembled on the small-MEB platform. It is designed for a single-motor application and smaller battery packs (50 to 80 kWh), according to Auto Zeitung. The ID.2 is expected in Europe in 2025 while the ID.2 X is planned for 2026.
