The BMW 7 Series sedan has long stood as one of the most premium and technologically advanced cars in the world. The all-new 2023 7 Series carries on this proud legacy as the car’s 7th generation also introduces the first-ever all-electric version which will be known as the i7.
In order to compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS, Porsche Taycan, and Tesla Model S, BMW has loaded up the new 7 with everything including the latest 8th generation of the iDrive system running through a massive, curved dual-screen layout. The central unit measures 14.9 inches and is twinned with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. But this is only the beginning.
The rear occupants will be entitled to an available 31-inch theater screen with ultra-HD quality and 5G connectivity. Each door will be fitted with a 5.5-inch touch-controlled display to navigate through various functions. As far as luxury touches are concerned, the 7 Series will offer panel heating in the armrests and center console, BMW Individual Merino leather trim, an available rear Executive Lounge, and a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof with LED lights, and much more.
The new 7 Series design is reminiscent of what was first seen on the revised and updated X7. It is highlighted by a new monolithic surface design, an ever-growing new kidney grille which is now illuminated, and crystal headlights.
BMW has also endowed the new 7 Series with a collection of powertrains that will be market-specific. Thanks to the flexible architecture, it will be powered by either a combustion engine, plug-in hybrid system, or an all-electric drive.
In North America, we will receive two models equipped with a petrol engine and 48V mild-hybrid technology. Perhaps more importantly, we will also get the new i7.
The new i7 xDrive60 will feature a pair of electric motors capable of generating up to 544 horsepower and 745 Nm (550 lb.-ft.) of torque. The attached high-voltage 101.7 kWh battery will deliver an estimated 310 miles of range according to the EPA. DC fast charging capability tops out at 195 kW.
Later in 2023, an i7 M70 xDrive will launch with a maximum output of over 600 horsepower and more than 1,000 Nm (737 lb.-ft.) of torque. The most powerful BMW model ever registered for road use accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 4.0 seconds.
