In all likelihood, it will be the most efficient ICE SUV on the market.
Powertrain details are not yet known.
The Corolla Cross Hybrid should be introduced in about a year for the 2023 model year.
The current-generation Toyota Corolla Hybrid is the most real-world fuel-efficient compact sedan offered on the market today. So efficient in fact that it rivals the world’s hybrid poster-child, the Prius. Now, we’ve learned that Toyota will introduce a hybrid version of its upcoming Corolla Cross SUV.
Taking Toyota’s hybrid technology and applying it to the Corolla Cross will surely generate an enormous amount of interest. Although we don’t know which powertrain Toyota will select for the Corolla Cross hybrid, it is believed that it will be offered with e-AWD, or the same layout currently available with the Toyota Prius. No matter what, it will be the most efficient in the segment, surely besting the RAV4 Hybrid’s 6L/100km combined average.
There are a few options here. The Prius’ 1.8-litre powertrain is an option as is the Lexus UX 250h’s 2.0-litre hybrid configuration. Finally, there’s the RAV4 Hybrid’s 2.5-litre Hybrid Synergy Drive layout. The latter would make the Corolla Cross hybrid quite the efficient powerhouse with its 219 horsepower.
According to the Car Guide, the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid will launch in about a year and be offered as a 2023 model year vehicle.
