VinFast to Break Ground on North Carolina EV Factory

VinFast to break ground on its electric vehicle factory in North Carolina, becoming the state’s first EV manufacturing facility and contributing to the advancement of green mobility while supporting job creation and supplier businesses.

VinFast, the Vietnamese electric automaker, is set to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its electric vehicle factory in North Carolina on July 28, marking the first electric vehicle manufacturing facility in the state. This significant milestone will contribute to the growing supply of electric vehicles in North America and accelerate the global green mobility revolution.

The manufacturing facility, located at the Triangle Innovation Point in Chatham County, North Carolina, will cover an area of approximately 1,800 acres. In its initial phase, the factory is designed to have a capacity of producing 150,000 vehicles per year. The complex will consist of two main areas: electric vehicle production and assembly. Additionally, the site will house supplementary supplier businesses, further strengthening the local automotive ecosystem.

With basic permits in place, the construction of Phase 1 of the manufacturing complex will commence soon. The establishment of VinFast’s factory will not only create an ecosystem of suppliers but also generate numerous new job opportunities, contributing to the local economy.

Madam Le Thi Thu Thuy, CEO of VinFast Auto, emphasized the importance of the North Carolina manufacturing facility, stating that it will become VinFast’s primary supplier of electric vehicles to the North American market, optimizing their production and business operations. The construction of the factory in Chatham County aligns with VinFast’s commitment to advancing the clean energy economy in the United States and supporting North Carolina’s green mobility strategy.

Production at the VinFast factory is projected to begin in 2025. Last year, the project received a $1.2 billion incentive package from the State of North Carolina, demonstrating the state’s support for the development of electric vehicle manufacturing. The City of Sanford, Chatham County, and the Golden Leaf Foundation have also provided critical financial support for the project.

Beyond the factory, VinFast is actively expanding its business and brand recognition in the United States. Efforts include the expansion of retail stores and service centers, organizing local test drives, and hosting product display events throughout California. These initiatives aim to provide customers with direct experiences of VinFast’s electric vehicles, raising awareness and generating opportunities in the market.
