We all know that VW owns Scout and that the German automaker will relaunch the storied utility vehicle brand in the near future. Save for the image you see below, there have been precious few other visual details from the car company.
Volkswagen Announced South Carolina will be the Site of its Upcoming Scout Factory
Motor1 reports that an eagle-eyed Scout EV Forum member named Golfguy spotted a small and grainy image in the official Volkswagen Capital Markets Day presentation that draws an outline of what both the pickup and SUV will look like.
In short, both are heavily inspired by the International Harvester Scout sold between 1961 and 1980. The most telling detail is the “C” pillar’s sharp near 45-degree upward turn from the high beltline – it’s quite visible on the pickup. The latter also shows the front grille that holds what seems to be a full-width light bar wrapped in a type of domino mask, à la Robin.
As well, it’s clear that both utility vehicles feature loads of ground clearance which on its own will be a strong selling point. The more we stare at the Scout vehicles, the more we see some Ford Bronco in the upright windscreen, the tall flat surfaces, and in the pickup, a fairly long box.
The vehicles were are seeing are concepts, which should break cover within 6-9 months, and therefore the final products could differ slightly.
