So, this is a bit of a weird one to be honest. Announced today, the Carbon Series is a special edition 2019 Ford GT that puts the focus on both losing weight and being more comfortable as a daily commuter. Those two don’t usually go together.
Ford says they listened to Ford GT Competition Series owners, and this is what they wanted.
They wanted to have a more comfortable car to drive to and from the track and more exposed carbon fiber while still retaining the performance characteristics of the GT Competition Series.
The Carbon Series loses 40 pounds thanks to carbon fiber everything including exclusives CF wheels. Now for the convenience side. Ford added A/C and Sync 3 infotainment, but then took a hard line on cupholders and storage bins.
“But they drew the line to keep the weight in check by removing cupholders and the driver’s seat storage bin”, says the press release.
Maybe it’s me, but if you’re making a car fun to drive to and from the track, keep the cupholders.
All that being said, who am I to criticize what Ford does with its GT? They will likely sell every single addition of the Carbon Series and owners will tell fellow country club members that it has more equipment and it’s therefore better.
They can also tell them about the additional visible carbon fiber on the body and inside, and the four accent colors that were available.
2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 First Look… or is it?
It’s not like Ford GTs were running around and available for sale at your nearest Ford dealer. If you want a GT and didn’t get in on the first round, this is the way to go. Just remember, no Starbucks on the way to the track.
