Ford is updating one of its most important sport utility vehicles with the arrival of the all-new Ford Explorer planned for later this year.
The 2020 Ford Explorer unveiled this week will feature a new rear-wheel drive architecture that’s lighter yet stronger, more features, a broader model lineup and improved towing capacity.
Two engines will be featured starting with a standard 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost developing 300 horsepower and that can tow up to 5,300 pounds. A twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 EcoBoost with 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque will be available and will offer a peak towing capacity of 5,600 pounds, a 12 percent increase over the previous Explorer.
The 2020 Explorer will also get Ford’s Co-Pilot suite of active safety technologies as well as a redesigned interior that aims to be more functional and more luxurious.
The most impressive feature of the new interior is the optional 10.1-inch portrait-mounted touchscreen that reminds us of the new Ram 1500 and Tesla Model S center screen.
