2020 Ford GT Gets More Power and New Liquid Carbon Edition

  • The 2020 Ford GT gets a 13-hp increase;
  • It will also feature a standard Akrapovič titanium exhaust;
  • A new limited-edition appearance package, Liquid Carbon, makes its way to the options list.

The Ford GT gets a few improvements for the 2020 model year. The Dearborn-based manufacturer unveiled its 2020 Ford GT earlier today with increased horsepower along with a few enhancements.

Thanks to Ford’s continuous technological innovation, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine, found in the GT, got a 13-hp bump this year for a total of 660 horsepower. The 2020 GT also gets upgraded engine cooling as a result of what the Ford engineers learned from the limited-edition, track-only GT Mk II.

“Ford GT continues to be the pinnacle of Ford performance,” said Ed Krenz, Ford Performance chief program engineer. “GT is always the ultimate expression of Ford racing innovation, and as we know from the 1966 Le Mans through today, that means constantly raising our game for our customers as well as earning the checkered flag.”

Another big addition for 2020 is certainly the premium Akrapovič titanium exhaust as standard equipment. Not only will the Akrapovič exhaust shave nine pounds off compared to last year’s system but, according to Ford, it will feature a deeply resonant, unmistakable sound.

An all-new limited-edition appearance option also makes its way on the 2020 Ford GT. Called Liquid Carbon, this package features a naked carbon fibre body. To achieve this, Ford applied a special clearcoat on the GT. Carbon fibre wheels are standard on the Ford GT Liquid Carbon. Furthermore, you can choose from different options on this new appearance package. Indeed, a choice of titanium lug nuts, six-point racing harness anchors, five interior options and five caliper colours are available as well as two over-the-top stripes and painted mirror caps.

The Ford GT Gulf Racing Heritage livery is also being updated for 2020.

“The black pinstripe and carbon fibre wheels have been highly requested with the Gulf livery, so we committed to making that happen,” said Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager.

And Ford made it happened, as, for the first time on a heritage model, carbon fibre wheels are available. A black pinstripe, to separate the Gulf colours, was indeed added to the car’s livery. The 2020 Ford GT Gulf Racing Heritage Edition is also getting a few tweaks this year. The optional number, found on the side of the car, is changing to 6 for 2020, instead of the 9 found on the 2019 model.
