An unnamed source has apparently confirmed the new BMW i4 EV will come in 2021.
- New BMW electric vehicle will be based on BMW 3 Series
- Anticipated 373 miles of range on WLPT cycle
- Reveal set for 2020, production for 2021
The all-new and all-electric BMW i4 will reportedly come in 2021 after being unveiled next year. The news comes from Roadshow which spoke with unnamed sources at BMW.
The BMW i4 will be a direct competitor to the Tesla Model 3 and will offer various trims and power levels. The sources say the BMW i4 will get an 80-kWh battery out of the gate and 530 horsepower which is certainly impressive. That should get the i4 to 100 km/h in about 4.0 seconds.
Thanks to a 150-kW DC fast battery charger, the i4 will recharge to 80 percent in about 35 minutes. Total range is rated at 373 miles on the WLTP cycle, although we all know that cycle is overly optimistic. EPA range will likely be closer to 325 miles.
The BMW i4 will be joined, or join, the BMW iX3 electric SUV when it goes on sale. The i lineup will take over where the i3 left off as a range of fully electric vehicles that will take on Tesla as well as other upcoming EVs like the Audi e-tron Sportback.
