Infiniti says that the 2022 QX60 will offer 20 percent more towing capacity than the model it replaces, and to make sure it can handle the weight, they’ve put the new crossover through hundreds of thousands of kilometres of testing.
“We want to make sure that the customer is confident that they can tow their travel trailer to their campsite for the weekend and not worry about their vehicle overheating,” said senior project engineer Heather Kniep. “In Arizona this year, we had a record number of days over 43 degrees (Celsius) and the vehicle towed with no problem. We want the customer to know that they can be confident towing with their vehicle.”
With a 295 hp 3.5L V6 and an all-new nine-speed automatic, the 2022 Infiniti QX60 will be able to tow up to 6,000 lbs (2,722 kg) depending on trim. That puts the model as one of the higher tow-rated crossovers in the class, and Infiniti says it’s enough weight to comfortably tow a 22-foot travel trailer. It’s also enough to haul powersports equipment or a boat to the lake, or a load of mulch from the garden centre.
Infiniti tested the new QX60 at its Arizona facility on surfaces including asphalt, dirt, and Belgian blocks, as well as actual road conditions in the mountains of Colorado and extreme cold of Alaska. Helping the engine and gearbox are an upgraded transmission oil cooler that comes with an integrated hitch receiver, trailer-ready stability control programming, and a prewiring harness for trailer wiring.
We still haven’t seen the full new QX60, but with more teasers like this, expect it to arrive soon.
