It’s being reported that Ford is working with the good people at Getrag to produce what looks like could be a 7-speed manual transmission for the eagerly awaited Ford Bronco.
We’re excited at the thought that the Bronco might get such a “box especially in a time where the vast majority of sports cars are ditching them in favour of a dual-clutch unit or a well-developed slushbox. There are only two reason why the Bronco might get a manual transmission.
1- The Jeep Wrangler offers one. While it’s not the ideal tool for the most serious of off-roaders, it’s still on the menu
2- As though there wasn’t enough hype and talk surrounding the new Ford Bronco, adding a 7-speed manual transmission, something shared only with the Porsche 911 and Chevrolet Corvette, would make an interesting sales pitch.
There are numerous hints that lead many to believe that the Bronco will get the 7-speed. The principal is that Getrag is working on a transmission that can be configured with 6 or 7 forward gears and that happens to be related to the one currently found in the Mustang.
