Abarth Developing its Most Powerful Model Yet

  • Electric Abarth to make 240 hp

  • Development help from Stellantis Motorsports

An electric Fiat 500 doesn’t mean that Abarth is leaving the party. Instead, the in-house go-fast crew at Abarth is going all in, getting ready to launch what it calls the most powerful model it has ever built.

Abarth is working with Stellantis Motorsport to help develop a 240 hp model. The companies are showing off the electric hot hatch in a series of camouflage photos that show us very little about the car, other than that it doesn’t seem to have too much in the way of front bodywork but does have a big rear wing.

There is enough of a change that Abarth has renamed the platform. The Stellantis eGMP architecture is the base of what is called Perfo-eCMP. Abarth says “each single technical element” has been gone through and tuned to create the high-performance EV.

It will get a limited-slip differential designed specifically for the EV powertrain. It will also have its own suspension setup to help deliver the signature Abarth feel.

The tires are also developed specifically for Abarth. The company says that they come from experience gained in Formula E, and deliver max grip without cutting range or adding noise.

New seats have four different foams to help optimize support, there are also new and larger brakes all around.

All that’s left is a name. Abarth isn’t giving that away just yet, and despite what looks like a 500e used as a base in the photo, the Fiat name wasn’t mentioned either. We’ll have to wait to find out more about this one, but we’ll keep you informed.
