Fiat Abarth 600e is Brand’s Most Powerful Model Ever

This electric hatch has sting

  • Gets mechanical LSD, Formula E-derived tires

Fiat‘s go-fast division Abarth has just revealed the first photos of its most powerful model ever. The Abarth 600e will make 240 hp from its electric powertrain, with tech from Formula E to help make it handle even better.

The Abarth 600e, the hot-hatch version of the Fiat 600e, is almost ready to debut. The company took the opportunity of a shoot for the first commercial for the car to send out a still image and some new performance information.

Abarth’s 240 hp electric motor will be connected to a mechanical limited-slip differential. That’s a lot of power – and instant electric torque – to send to the two front tires. A mechanical LSD ensures both front tires are getting that power, even in corners. A mechanical LSD means no trickery using the car’s brakes like many fast cars rely on, which means the differential action won’t slow the car down or cook the front pads.

The tires come from Hankook, the official supplier to the Formula E electric racing series. Abarth says that the tires were developed with the knowledge gained from that racing series and “ensure maximum grip and guarantee excellent racing dynamics in all kinds of conditions.”

Hypnotic Purple, the colour you see in the photos, is part of the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima. It’s the launch edition of the car, limited to just 1,949 units. It has extra aero, 20-inch wheels, and “an extensive brake system.” More details to follow.

No word on when the model will launch, but expect it in the next few months.
