Announced in 2016, the former Ministry of Defence site at St Athan in Wales is now the Aston Martin Lagonda’s second UK manufacturing plant.
Today, the luxury British manufacturer announced that pre-production models of the all-new Aston Martin DBX were built at St Athan, moving the brands first SUV closer to production.
The St Athan manufacturing facility will create up to new 550 jobs as it will be the sole production facility of the DBX. It was also named “Home of Electrification” by Aston Martin Lagonda as it will also be the home of the Lagonda brand.
Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Andy Palmer said: “This is an exciting time for Aston Martin Lagonda. Our second luxury manufacturing facility is now producing cars and is ready to go into full production in H1 2020. Our facilities and manufacturing teams, led by VP and Chief Manufacturing Operations Officer Keith Stanton have done an outstanding job in getting the factory ready almost a year before full production starts, on time and on budget.“
The prototype was unveiled last November and since then, the DBX was put through its paces, said the carmaker, from from the Arctic Circle to the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The Aston Martin DBX is the British manufacturer first-ever SUV and will be unveiled at the end of 2019.
