Audi to Reveal Electric Sports Car Concept at Munich Show, Positioned Between TT and R8

Audi’s all-electric sports car concept should use the Porsche 718 EV’s underpinnings

  • Audi confirms new electric sports car concept to debut at Munich Motor Show in September.

  • CEO says the model sits “between TT and R8” and will enter production in two years.

  • Vehicle likely to use PPE platform shared with Porsche 718 EV and Q6 e-tron.

Audi will debut a new electric sports car concept this September at the Munich Motor Show, marking what the company calls its “TT Moment 2.0” as it updates design and product direction, and hopes to rekindle interest as it faces difficult times.

The vehicle, described by Audi CEO Gernot Döllner as “not a TT, not an R8, but something in between,” is intended to re-establish a halo product for the brand. Both the TT and R8 have been discontinued in recent years, leaving a fairly large gap in Audi’s sports car lineup.

Döllner confirmed the model will launch as a production vehicle within two years. He called it an “identity builder” and said the car would play a central role in Audi’s efforts to regain footing within industry-wide electrification. “We have to get back on track now,” Döllner said.

Although full specifications remain under wraps, the electric sports car is expected to deliver greater performance than the outgoing TT and feature a fully electric powertrain. It will likely share its architecture with models on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), the same platform underpinning the Audi Q6 e-tron, electric Macan, and the forthcoming Porsche 718 EV.

Audi spokespersons previously indicated the car is being developed from a “blank sheet of paper” to ensure it meets the expectations of long-time customers while establishing a new design identity.

The e-tron GT, Audi’s current electric flagship, has yet to achieve something remotely close to the cultural resonance of past icons. The upcoming sports EV is designed to fill that role, currently held by the RS 6 Avant.

The concept version will be revealed in early September ahead of its public appearance at the Munich Motor Show.
