BMW is going all out with its new 8 Series flagship. Buyers will be able to choose from a wide range of models and versions including an M8 Gran Coupe, and there’s also apparently a convertible in the works. Today we got our first glimpse of the car testing out in the Nevada desert in 122-degree heat.
While most owners will undoubtedly put the top up when it gets that hot outside, BMW still wants to make sure the A/C can handle extreme temperatures. Visually, the BMW 8 Series convertible shares much of the design of its Coupe brother, and it’s hard to tell them apart when the top is in place.
Nothing yet as to the engine found under the hood of the 8 Series but expect the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 as in the Coupe. That means 523 horsepower and 558 pound-feet of torque.
The BMW 8 Series will arrive on the market next year, with M versions to follow.
