Follow the first Tesla Model 3 cross-country road trip

I don’t know about you but we’re beginning to wonder about what is really going on at Tesla. In a matter of weeks, Elon Musk’s announced or revealed plans for a Semi truck, the return of the Roadster, the Model Y (compact Model X) and now a pickup. Meanwhile, the long-ago promised and overly hyped Model 3 still seems like a pipe dream for tens of thousands of would-be owners that put a deposit down roughly a year and a half ago.

While production woes are still being worked out, one lucky (very lucky?) owner of an early Model 3 has decided to put his electric car through a rigorous, long-distance test. The trial at hand is quite impressive. It began in Burlingame, California on December 23rd, 2017. From there, they proceeded to Florida, and have now made their way North into Canada.

The road has been all but trouble-free. In fact, within the first few days, numerous issues have crept up and marred the road trip. Among the long list, the drivers faced an air bag light, a faulty tire pressure sensor, wipers knocking, audio and music system noises, service response malfunctions and the 12v plug not working. Two of the more worrisome incidents involved a loud pop noise in the rear followed by a warning light and mistakes in charging rates calculations.

As you read these lines, the Model 3 will have already crossed into Quebec and made its way through a few towns. They head to Ontario right about now and ultimately will make their way back west. The final destination is Hawaii.
