It’s no secret that trucks mean huge revenues and profits for automakers. The ongoing global microchip shortage has forced nearly all car companies to pause the production of one or more of their vehicles. For the American manufacturers, keeping the truck assembly lines moving has been their focus but unfortunately, GM will once more have to idle GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado HD production.
It’s not all bad news however as GM will reboot Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6 and GMC Acadia production lines next week. The Ramos Assembly in Mexico, where the Chevrolet Blazer and Chevrolet Equinox are built will also get back to action – Both plants had been offline since July 19 according to The Detroit News.
The heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra truck plant in Flint has recently seen its output cut down to a single shift and now, the line will shut down all of next week. The plan is to return to building the large ultra-profitable trucks as of August 16th. This will mark the second time the plant has been idled so far.
