Jaguar Classic To Commemorate 60th Anniversary Of The E-Type

  • Six pairs of matched E-Types will be created by Jaguar Classic.

  • They will consist of two of the most famous examples: “9600 HP” and “77 RW”.

  • The 60th birthday bash for the Jaguar E-Type happens next March.

The story goes that the two Jaguar E-types, “9600 HP” and “77 RW”, were driven from Coventry to Geneva overnight and arrived only minutes to spare before they were to be unveiled at the auto show.

To celebrate the Jaguar E-Type’s 60th anniversary, Jaguar Classic will recreate the pair of cars, an Opalescent Gunmetal Grey 3.8-litre fixed-head coupe (9600 HP) and a British Racing Green 3.8-litre roadster (77 RW), a total of six times.

All twelve “new” E-Types, insipred by the 1961 Geneva Motor Show cars, will be built and fully-restored off an existing car. They will also feature a number of 60th anniversary commemorative design details.

Dan Pink, Director of Jaguar Classic said: “The Jaguar E-type is a genuine icon, as sensational today as the moment it was unveiled in 1961. It’s testament to the E-type’s advanced design and engineering that it can still be enjoyed and admired as passionately almost 60 years on. The E-type 60 Collection is a lasting tribute for E-type admirers, honouring the car’s legacy and the achievements of the team that created it – many of whom have descendants working for Jaguar Classic today, expertly restoring, maintaining and future-proofing enjoyment for generations to come.”

The Jaguar E-Type has left its mark in pop culture and was a favorite of celebrities, from Steve McQueen, Brigitte Bardot, Frank Sinatra, George Harrison, and Tony Curtis. It has also joined The Museum of Modern Art’s design collection in 1996, only the third car ever to do so.
