Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition Added for 2020

Another special-edition Wrangler to get the enthusiasts’ adrenaline pumping.

  • 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon features some exclusive trim details
  • Recon fender badging and glossy black hood and fender decals set this Wrangler variant apart
  • Pricing to start at CAD$55,535 in Canada and USD$43,380 in the U.S.

Once again, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is spitting out another special-edition variant of its popular Jeep Wrangler, and this time, we’re seeing the return of the Rubicon Recon trim.

It’s the first time the Recon edition is offered on the current-generation JL Jeep Wrangler. From the outside, it can be distinguished by LED headlights and taillights, a glossy black grille with body-colour surrounds, a matte black fender vent and hood decals, new 17-inch alloy wheels and other minor trim details. It also gets appropriate Recon fender badges, of course.

2020 Jeep Wrangler Diesel Engine Will Cost $4,000

Inside, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon benefits from a Jeep trail bag, red seat belts and PUR-wrapped seat bolsters with red contrast stitching.

As is the case with the regular Rubicon, the Recon also gets Dana front and rear axles and a Rack-Trac NV241 two-speed transfer case with low range. Heavy-duty rock rails, electric front and rear locking differentials, a disconnecting front sway bar and 33-inch all-terrain tires are also thrown in for maximum performance off the beaten path.

Ten paint colours will be offered for the Recon as well, which include: Black, Granite Crystal, Sting-Grey, Billet Silver, Ocean Blue, Bikini, Firecracker Red, Punk’n, Hellayella and Bright White. Gotta love some of these colour names.

No word on what powertrain will equip the Canadian-spec Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon, but in the United States, will come with the brand’s turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

“We are excited to bring the Wrangler Rubicon Recon model back to the Jeep lineup as it represents the ultimate combination of Rubicon off-road 4×4 capability with a unique appearance package that will resonate with our most diehard off-road enthusiasts,” said Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA North America.

In Canada, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon will be listed from CAD$55,535 before freight and delivery charges. That’s for the two-door variant; the four-door Recon Unlimited will cost CAD$57,935. In the United States, it will start at USD$43,380 in two-door form and USD$46,880 in Unlimited guise. Look for the new Rubicon Recon in FCA dealerships in the first quarter of 2020.
