LA Auto Show : the 2019 Hyundai Kona unveiled

It’s not the first time the new Hyundai Kona is shown to car enthusiasts, but it’s the first time it shows up in North America. The Korean manufacturer took a few moments to showcase their new urban crossover and it appears like Hyundai will succeed again with a well-conceived product.

With a new platform and modern powertrains, the 2019 Hyundai Kona should be competitive once it reaches North American showrooms in a few weeks. The base engine is an Atkinson 4-cylinder mill with a 2,0-liter displacement, 147 horsepower and 132 ft-lb of available torque. This one will be coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the other option is mated to a dual clutch 7-speed unit. No surprises here with the integration of the 1,6-liter turbo engine, developing 175 hp and 195 ft-lb of torque. Obviously, an AWD system is available for those who want to go a little further when road conditions get bad.

Technology wise, the newcomer is well equipped. On top of Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity, the CUV benefits from Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist along with Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assist, Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert to keep its passengers safe.

The new 2019 Hyundai Kona is expected in the first quarter of 2018, so we won’t have to wait too long to experience the new member of the crossover family.
