Willing to tap in the highly dynamic small SUV segment, Chevrolet is squeezing a new SUV between the Trax and the Equinox, the Trailblazer. It’s a familiar nameplate, the truck-based Trailblazer was dropped in 2009. This time, it is back with a smaller size and two trims: ACTIV and RS.
It can be delivered with a choice of much smaller powerplants than with the older model. Buyers will be able to choose between a 1.2-litre or a 1.3-litre engine, both turbocharged with the biggest one delivering 155 horsepower. To manage the power, Chevrolet chose two gearboxes: a Continuously Variable Transmission or an available nine-speed automatic transmission on models equipped with the 1.3-litre
Also available is Chevy’s AWD system that currently equips the Blazer and the Traverse. This system, as you may know, is selectable, which means you can turn it off to save on gas on the highway, and turn it back on when the weather gets nasty.
Both models have a two-tone colour scheme, but ACTIV trims are more “off-road inclined” with a more rugged look, unique tires and a specific shock tuning. Wheels are wrapped with Hankook Sport Terrain tires.
